Short Description
An audiovisual clock built from air, water, rhythm, and human presence.
Long Description
Different Times is a physical clock made from transparent water columns, air, light, and sound. Each vessel has a different height, and precisely timed bubbles rise through them in repeating sequences. The bubbles create both the measure and the music. Their release begins as a steady pulse, giving the room a rhythm that can be seen moving upward through water. Two Kinect sensors read where people stand in relation to the work. Moving closer or farther changes the frequency of the bubbles, breaking the repeated sequence and reshaping the sound across the room. With several people present, the installation becomes a shared instrument. Distance, approach, and stillness enter the same score, moving it between order, interruption, and coincidence. Different Times gives the present a rhythm, then lets every person in the room bend it through proximity.
